Sloth Dental Model
Voxel Medical engineered a high-fidelity anatomical model of a two-toed sloth skull derived directly from high-resolution clinical CT DICOM datasets.
Through calibrated Hounsfield Unit segmentation, our engineering team isolated the delicate cranial sutures, as well as dental features, transforming the raw volumetric scan into a refined 3D digital surface mesh.
The skull was mechanically engineered to support interactive veterinary dental training and comparative biomechanical study. We developed a concealed, low-profile hinge mechanism within the temporomandibular joint that mimics the sloth’s natural kinematics.
The pseudo-canines were designed as modular components that seat securely into the skull. This allows practitioners to repeatedly extract and reinsert the teeth to evaluate root depth, assess severe wear facets, and practice surgical procedures.
Printed in durable, photopolymer resins, the final assembly provides zoological educators and wildlife veterinary surgeons with an unprecedented, fully functional tactile tool for exotic cranial simulation.
